Normandy: A 2025 Award-Winning Region and a Strong Partner for Cruise Development

Monday, November 10, 2025 - 09:02 by rouen

Normandy has been named Europe's most desirable region for 2025 at the Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards. At this year's record-breaking edition, 4.8 million votes were cast by readers. During the ceremony at London's National Gallery, Normandy received the Gold Award as the "Most Desirable Region in Europe." It ranked ahead of the Austrian Alps (Silver), the Azores (Bronze), and other renowned destinations including Catalonia, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Andalucía, Dubrovnik-Neretva County, Istria/Istra, Lombardy, and in tenth place, the Scottish Highlands.
This recognition confirms Normandy's strong appeal, uniting authenticity, diversity, and natural beauty. For cruise lines, it highlights a region where heritage, culture, and landscapes converge within the efficient network of five Norman ports, offering guests meaningful and memorable experiences.

The Normandy Cruise Destination network brings together Rouen and the Seine Valley, Honfleur, Le Havre-Etretat, Caen-Ouistreham, and Cherbourg-Cotentin, in a close-knit partnership dedicated to offering cruise partners and guests a seamless, regional experience. Each port maintains its unique character and attractions while working collectively to showcase Normandy's rich heritage, culture, and natural beauty.

Normandy's itineraries blend rich heritage, vibrant culture, and enduring local traditions. Visitors can easily access Rouen's two millennia of history and along with its UNESCO-recognized gastronomy, stroll along Honfleur's picturesque fishermen's harbour, or explore Cherbourg's maritime legacy and stunning coastline. The region equally boasts numerous UNESCO World Heritage sites, including Le Havre's post-war architecture. It is also home to internationally renowned landmarks such as the Bayeux Tapestry and the historic D-Day landing beaches, close to Caen. Together, these ports offer genuine encounters with Normandy's towns and countryside, creating a cohesive and compelling destination for cruise travellers.
Normandy's ports collaborate to ensure sustainable and inclusive tourism. Investments in shore power connections, eco-certified excursions, and coordinated planning reflect a shared commitment to responsible cruise tourism and high-quality visitor experiences.

Normandy's combination of heritage, culture, and welcoming ports, together with the Wanderlust award, makes it a destination where cruise guests can experience the best of France in one accessible region.
