Education Service Center Established Under Governor’s Office with CFO Network to Strengthen School Finance Support Across Nevada

Carson City, Nev. May 06, 2026

The Office of Governor Joe Lombardo has established the Education Service Center (ESC), a new statewide resource to support school districts and the State Public Charter School Authority (SPCSA) and supported the ESC to launch the CFO Network - an initiative aimed at strengthening financial leadership across Nevada's K-12 system. Together, these efforts represent a significant step forward in delivering high-impact support to Nevada's schools, with a focus on improving financial understanding, operational effectiveness, and student outcomes.

"Sound financial management is critical to ensuring our education system delivers for Nevada's students," said Governor Lombardo. "By launching the CFO Network, we are giving school district and charter school financial leaders the tools and support they need to make informed decisions, maximize resources, and better serve our students and families."

The CFO Network was developed following extensive conversations between Governor Lombardo, the ESC, district superintendents, and the SPCSA executive director to better understand the needs of local education leaders. Facilitated by the ESC, the network will provide direct, ongoing support to fiscal officers, with a focus on strengthening understanding of the Pupil-Centered Funding Plan, improving revenue forecasting, and enhancing use of the state chart of accounts.

"The CFO Network represents a meaningful step toward building stronger school districts across Nevada," said Steve Canavero, Ph.D., Director of the Education Service Center. "By creating a space for collaboration and technical support, we can help ensure that financial leaders have the clarity and tools they need to navigate complex funding systems and ultimately better support students in every community."

The ESC was established through the passage of Senate Bill 460 and is tasked with supporting school districts and the SPCSA by providing technical assistance and resources. The ESC is currently housed within the Governor's Office until funding appropriated by the Nevada Legislature under Senate Bill 460 sustains the initiative through the biennium. On April 20, 2026, the ESC Board formalized this approach by entering into an agreement with the Governor's Office, enabling the Center to begin delivering services without delay.
