Ascension Saint Thomas is expanding specialized cardiovascular care for women in Williamson County with the launch of the Ascension Saint Thomas Heart Women's Heart Program at Williamson Medical Center.
The program brings specialized expertise, advanced diagnostic services, and personalized cardiovascular care closer to home for women throughout Williamson County and surrounding communities. It builds on Ascension Saint Thomas' broader commitment to women's heart health across Middle Tennessee while establishing a dedicated focus on the unique cardiovascular needs of women in the community.
Heart disease remains the leading cause of death for women, yet women can experience different symptoms and risk factors than men. Pregnancy complications, menopause and hormonal changes, autoimmune conditions, breast cancer treatments, high blood pressure, and diabetes can all affect a woman's cardiovascular health.
"Women deserve cardiovascular care that recognizes the unique ways heart disease can affect them throughout their lives," said Dr. Nishtha Sareen, medical director of the Ascension Saint Thomas Heart Women's Heart Program. "At Ascension Saint Thomas Heart, we are advancing women's heart health by bringing together specialized expertise, innovative care, and a deeper understanding of the factors that influence a woman's cardiovascular health. Our commitment is to provide every woman with personalized, evidence-based care, from prevention and early detection to care, so she can take control of her heart health and live a healthier life."
The Women's Heart Program at Williamson Medical Center brings together cardiovascular clinicians to provide preventive heart care, advanced diagnostic testing, heart failure management, coronary artery disease care, cardio-obstetrics, cardio-oncology, and menopause and heart health counseling.
Dr. Niti Aggarwal recently joined Ascension Saint Thomas Heart from Mayo Clinic, bringing expertise in women's cardiovascular health to patients in Williamson County.
"Women in Williamson County deserve access to cardiovascular care, and that means bringing specialized expertise and care closer to home," said Aggarwal, a cardiologist with Ascension Saint Thomas Heart. "The expansion of the Women's Heart Program represents a significant investment in the health of women in this community. We are changing the way we approach women's heart health by recognizing their unique risks, identifying cardiovascular disease earlier, and delivering personalized, evidence-based care. I am proud to join Ascension Saint Thomas and help ensure women in Williamson County have access to the expertise, resources, and comprehensive care they need to protect their hearts at every stage of life."
The program provides women with access to clinicians who understand the factors that can influence cardiovascular health throughout their lives. By focusing on prevention, early detection, and personalized care when clinically appropriate, the program helps women better understand their individual cardiovascular risks and take an active role in protecting their long-term heart health.
The launch of the Women's Heart Program at Williamson Medical Center reflects Ascension Saint Thomas' continued investment in expanding access to comprehensive cardiovascular care across Middle Tennessee and helping patients receive specialized care closer to home.
