America's Electric Companies Mobilize With Industry and Government Partners Ahead of Hurricane Isaias

WASHINGTON (October 08, 2026) - Electric companies in the path of Hurricane Isaias have activated their emergency response plans and are coordinating closely with industry and government partners to ensure a safe and efficient restoration for the customers and communities that may be impacted by the storm. Preparations include strategically pre-positioning equipment, resources, and restoration workers to enable impacted companies to begin damage assessments and restore power as soon as it is safe to do so.

"This unified effort includes close coordination with federal, state, and local officials who share the goal of safely restoring power as quickly as possible," said EEI President and CEO Drew Maloney. "I commend EEI's member companies and their state and local partners for spending significant time working together to strengthen grid resilience and emergency response capabilities."

EEI's member companies make significant investments each year to strengthen the grid, including installing stronger poles and advanced sensors that help companies remotely pinpoint outages. Electric companies also have installed smart grid technologies that enable them to remotely reroute power in real time, helping to drastically shrink the number of impacted customers and, in some cases, avoid outages altogether. These advanced technologies will help companies respond efficiently to any outages that do result from the dangerous storm surge, severe winds, heavy rain, inland flooding, and tornadoes that may be caused by Hurricane Isaias this weekend.

For more than a decade, EEI's member companies also have been utilizing drones to speed infrastructure inspections and damage assessments . This technology is especially important in the early stages of a restoration, when flooding and downed trees make it challenging for crews to directly access areas that have outages.

"Electric companies are investing in stronger infrastructure and advanced technologies that are delivering clear benefits for customers," said Maloney. "Our sustained industry-government coordination also helps ensure we are moving the right crews and equipment needed to ensure safe, efficient restorations."
