Governor's Office
HELENA, Mont. - Lieutenant Governor Kristen Juras today issued Executive Order 11-2026 to temporarily suspend enforcement of dyed-fuel provisions for commercial motor vehicles engaging in agriculture and timber business purposes.
"Montana farmers, ranchers, and timber industry workers are feeling the squeeze at the gas pump," said Gov. Gianforte. "This executive order will help bring relief for transporting essential goods including agricultural commodities, livestock feed, and timber products."
The executive order is effective for 45 days until November 23, 2026.
The commercial motor vehicles (CMV) that fall under the suspended enforcement include: vehicles that have a gross weight or gross combination weight of 10,001 pounds or more, CMVs designed or used to transport more than 8 passengers (including the driver) for compensation; CMVs designed or used to transport more than 15 passengers (including the driver) not for compensation; or CMVs used to transport placardable hazardous materials. CMVs include vehicles of 26,001 pounds or more, passenger vehicles meeting federal thresholds, or vehicles transporting hazardous materials as defined in federal statute.
Pursuant to Article VI, Section 4 of the Montana Constitution, a governor may delegate statutory duties to the lieutenant governor. The Governor is currently leading an international trade mission to India, and so he has delegated issuing this executive order to the Lt. Governor on his behalf.
