Messmer and Stauber Thank National Guard Troops with Warm Breakfast Meals

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Reps. Mark Messmer (R-IN) and Pete Stauber (R-MN) delivered hot breakfast to National Guard troops stationed across Washington, D.C. to thank them for their incredible work guarding the capital city as a component of President Trump's historic crackdown on out-of-control urban crime in America.

"It was an honor to join my colleague Congressman Pete Stauber as we traveled throughout the city this morning to meet with and thank the National Guard troops stationed around the U.S. Capitol area," said Rep. Messmer. "These dedicated public servants are helping to return law and order to a place where the crime crisis had become uncontrollable. It was great to show my appreciation for the sacrifices these troops make every day keeping America safe. Hats off to President Trump for delivering a long-overdue solution to the crime crisis and for cleaning up our country's most dangerous communities!"

BACKGROUND:

President Trump recognized that the deplorable crime crisis in Washington, D.C. was untenable and determined that too many citizens were being killed and living in fear in the capital city.

In declaring the crisis an emergency situation in his Executive Order (EO), the president used his authority to bring National Guard troops from around the country into the District of Columbia to work in concert with the local police force and restore law and order to the region. Remarkable change was immediately evident and the local citizenry and tourists visiting their nation's Capital are now able to walk safer streets.

Reps. Messmer and Stauber visited troops at their deployment hubs at the Union Station, Eastern Market, D.C. Waterfront, and Navy Yard metro stations.
