On 26 August 2026, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs met with Mrs. Damtien Tchintchibidja, Vice President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, at ECOWAS Secretariat in Abuja, Nigeria.

On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister reiterated Thailand's commitment to driving forward Thailand - Africa Initiative (TAI) which aims to strengthen South-South cooperation with African nations through promotion of practical partnerships in political, economic, development, and multilateral cooperation.

They also exchanged views on ways to strengthen collaboration between Thailand and ECOWAS, particularly in food security, tourism, human resource development, and public health, which Thailand has expertise in.

Both sides recognised the importance of trade and investment cooperation. In this regard, the Thai side and the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry will jointly organise the Thailand-Nigeria Business Forum in Lagos on 27 August 2026 aiming at connecting Thai and Nigerian businesses and mutually exploring trade opportunities.
