NEW: Sam Brownback Pours Thousands into Ty Masterson's Campaign, His Only Statewide Contribution Since His Own Race

According to newly reported campaign finance records, disgraced former Kansas Governor Sam Brownback contributed $2,000 to Ty Masterson's campaign in September. Notably, records show this is Brownback's first contribution to a statewide candidate since his own campaign in 2014 - further underscoring how Masterson would take Kansans back to the failed days of Brownback's tenure.

This follows Brownback endorsing Masterson - calling him "very knowledgeable on how to form policy in Kansas - and good policy for Kansas" and saying that Masterson would "do a great job as governor."

It's no surprise that Brownback would give his full support to Masterson's flailing bid for governor: Masterson repeatedly voted in favor of the failed Brownback experiment that tanked the state's economy and forced schools to go to four-day school weeks - even calling efforts to overturn the experiment "garbage."

Masterson was also caught on tape bragging about his role in writing a key part of the experiment that earned Brownback a stunning 64 percent unfavorability rating even today.

"Sam Brownback is pumping money into Ty Masterson's campaign because he knows Masterson would continue his devastating agenda that took Kansas years to recover from," said DGA spokesperson Johanna Warshaw. "A vote for Masterson is a vote for Brownback 2.0: higher costs, underfunded schools, and crumbling roads and bridges. Kansans have made clear they don't want to go back to the failed days of Brownback, and that is why they will reject him at the ballot box next week."
