Governor Polis Releases Statement on Fatal Agent-Involved Shooting in Lakewood

Governor Polis will order flags to half-staff on the day of the agent's memorial once it has been selected

DENVER - Tonight four Lakewood Police Agents and one civilian were involved in a shooting near Colfax and Wadsworth. All four agents were transported to the hospital. One agent has been confirmed deceased and the other three agents and the civilian remain in care.

"Law enforcement put their lives on the line for our safety everyday and I am heartbroken to learn that a Lakewood Police Agent was killed in the line of duty this evening. My heart goes out to their family and friends. My thoughts are also with the three agents who are still receiving care at area hospitals, as well as the civilian who was wounded, and I wish them a full and speedy recovery. Thank you to law enforcement who run into danger to keep us safe and to protect our communities," said Governor Polis.

The Colorado State Patrol is on the scene supporting and is participating in the procession from the hospital for the fallen agent. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is supporting the ongoing investigation.
