Council recognizes 2025’s top employees and approves pedestrian and bike safety plans for schools

The City Council on Tuesday recognized the top City, police and fire employees of 2025 and gave the green light to pedestrian and bike safety plans for schools, among other business.

Council Members lauded the dedication of the individuals named as last year's Mission Viejo Employee of the Year, Mission Viejo Police Services' Employee of the Year and Orange County Fire Authority Mission Viejo Employee of the Year.

As part of a proactive effort, the Council unanimously voted to award a contract to prepare individual pedestrian/bicycle safety circulation plans for 19 public K-12 schools. Using funding through a grant received from the Federal Safe Streets 4 All (SS4A) program, the project will include thorough evaluation of the needs of each location to draft a set of guidelines and circulation plans tailored to each school that detail operational and physical improvements intended to promote walking, bicycling, and safety.

The Council awarded an agreement with Pacific Symphony for multiple concerts this year including a Symphony on the Go event; performance in the Jeronimo Tunnel; sensory concert; and the return of the signature Prelude in the Park and Symphony in the Cities.

Council Members also authorized the 2026 Orange County Multisport Festival (formally known as the Orange County International Triathlon) to take place in Mission Viejo for the 18th year on April 26.

With the Civic Center adorned in red lighting and Council Members sporting red, February was proclaimed as American Heart Month to emphasize the importance of heart health.

The City Council regularly meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month. Meetings are streamed live on the City's website and air on Cox Channel 30 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99.
