City Continues Activation of Snow and Ice Response Plan

The City of Greensboro continues its full emergency Snow and Ice Response Plan.

In the past 24 hours, crews successfully cleared 96% of the Priority 1 roads to bare pavement, totaling approximately 1,130 miles of roads through plowing, salting, and grading of icy spots. Priority 1 routes include emergency service routes, multi-line and high-traffic roads.

Assistant City Manager Tiffany Oliva said, "The City continues to encourage all residents to use caution when driving, particularly until all roads have been fully cleared. We greatly appreciate the dedication of City staff working around the clock and thank the public for their patience."

While today's sunny conditions helped to melt some icy areas, low overnight temperatures increase the potential for refreezing, which may create challenging road conditions tomorrow morning.

Nearly 200 frontline staff have been working alternating 12-hour shifts, since Saturday, and will continue working overnight operations to clear Priority 2 roads to bare pavement.

Although many Priority 2 routes have already been plowed, roads often require multiple passes to achieve bare pavement conditions.

The Snow and Ice Response Plan will remain in effect until all routes (Priority 1-3) have been cleared.

The interactive snow map, meeting cancellations, and service changes are available on the Winter Weather page on the City's website.
