Washington, DC - Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) today released the following statement following the New York Public Service Commission's approval of temporary utility rate increases for customers served by New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) and Rochester Gas & Electric (RG&E), while even larger increases remain under review.
"New York regulators' approval of temporary utility rate hikes is just one more example of the failed governance coming out of Albany that has made New York increasingly unaffordable for hardworking families," said Congresswoman Tenney. "Families across Upstate New York are now being told to pay even more just to heat their homes and keep the lights on.
"The Public Service Commission is appointed by Governor Hochul and Albany Democrats own this decision and the broader affordability crisis their policies have created," Tenney continued. "Years of one-party rule, anti-energy policies, and reckless mandates have driven costs higher while making our energy grid less reliable. New Yorkers deserve affordable, dependable energy. Albany Democrats have delivered the exact opposite."
