Teams/Riders

After a tough battle back to the front of the pack, the Norwegian finished second at the IRONMAN World Championship and took the season-long Pro Series crown. His fellow Giant-sponsored triathlete Kristian Blummenfelt finished third in the series standings.

Gustav Iden returned to the Big Island with a standout performance at the IRONMAN World Championship, finishing second and securing the 2026 IRONMAN Pro Series title. The Norwegian clocked the fastest marathon of the day, 2:36:57, to charge through the field and finish in 7:49:02, just 1:35 behind winner Vincent Luis of France.

Iden exited the water 1:51 behind the lead pack before settling into a strong, steady bike leg. He worked his way into the chase group by the 88km mark, but a time penalty dropped him outside the top 10.

"I almost gave up after I got my penalty," Iden said. "Then it was fighting back, every second matters. Just trying to get back to top-five, and then podium, and then winning."

Starting the marathon about nine minutes behind the leaders, Iden steadily closed the gap, passing contenders one by one along the Queen K Highway. In the closing kilometers, he was chasing Luis for the win before crossing the line in second place.

"Brutal. Absolutely brutal," Iden said. "In the end I was just trying to make it to the finish line. I'm happy with second."

Return of the Lucky Hat

Iden raced wearing his famous lucky hat, a yellow-and-blue cap he found by the roadside in Japan. The hat originated at a temple in Changhua County, Taiwan, not far from Giant's headquarters in Taichung. He has worn it for some of his biggest victories, including his 2022 IRONMAN World Championship win in Kona.

"This is the OG special lucky hat," Iden said. "I really thought it was going to give me everything today, but second place is also a good performance."

A Race With Deeper Meaning

Iden dedicated his race to his late mother, wearing a race suit designed in her memory and riding a custom Trinity Advanced SL created for the occasion. His bike was equipped with a CADEX Aero WheelSystem (including a new prototype rear wheel) and the new CADEX Sync Aero extension bars. Iden also wore a Giant Rivet Mips helmet.

The custom Trinity that Iden raced in Kona is now being offered as the grand prize in a fundraiser benefiting Kreftforeningen, the Norwegian Cancer Society.

The podium finish marked an emotional return to Kona, four years after Iden claimed the world title in 2022 and following some challenging seasons. "In the moment when I crossed the finish line I got super emotional," he said. "The tears came straight away. It was a special moment."

Season Champion

Iden built momentum throughout the 2026 season, finishing eighth at IRONMAN Texas, second at IRONMAN Frankfurt, and fourth at the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Nice. His runner-up finish in Kona capped a remarkable season and earned him enough points to secure the 2026 IRONMAN Pro Series title. He finished with 20,177 points, edging Germany's Jonas Schomburg by just 53 points.

Blummenfelt Joins Pro Series Podium

Fellow Giant athlete Kristian Blummenfelt also delivered a strong performance in Kona, swimming with the lead pack and entering T2 in fifth place after a demanding bike leg on his Trinity Advanced SL. The Norwegian made a push midway through the marathon but was unable to sustain the pace, eventually finishing eighth in 7:58:06.

Blummenfelt's performance capped a successful 2026 season that included victories at IRONMAN Texas, IRONMAN 70.3 Oceanside and IRONMAN 70.3 Geelong, along with runner-up finishes at Challenge Roth and the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Nice. He collected 19,985 points to finish third in the overall IRONMAN Pro Series standings, putting two Giant athletes on the series podium.
