(BINGHAMTON, N.Y.) - Mayor Jared M. Kraham on Tuesday announced a series of promotions within the Binghamton Fire Department, including two new assistant fire chiefs, effective this month.

Mayor Kraham said: "The City of Binghamton's full-time professional firefighting and EMS capabilities are without match in the Southern Tier. These promotions represent the next generation of leadership for the Binghamton Fire Department, positioning the Department to continue to provide the highest levels of emergency response to our community for years to come. Congratulations to all those promoted, and thank you for your leadership and service."

Fire Chief Thomas P. Edwards said: "The Binghamton Fire Department and I are proud to congratulate those members promoted to fill several retirement vacancies. This provides organizational stability and continuity for our entire rank and file. These promotions are critical to the Department's ability to maintain its operational readiness, enhance firefighter safety, and provide efficient, professional fire and EMS services to our community."

David J. Holleran, a 36-year veteran of the Fire Department, and Bryan R. Davidson, a 21-year veteran, have been named Assistant Chiefs.

Both served as Captains prior to their promotions this month. They fill vacancies created by last month's promotion of Chief Edwards, who had been an Assistant Chief since 2024, and the retirement of Assistant Chief Mike Griffis.

Marco T. Michitti and R. Tim Smith were appointed Captains as part of the promotions. Both were promoted from the rank of Lieutenant.

Michitti joined the Fire Department in 2007. Smith has been a member of the Department since 2008.

Two new Fire Lieutenants were also named as part of the promotions: Eric A. Mastroianni and Connor J. Whiting.

Mastroianni has served as a Binghamton Firefighter since 2014. Whiting joined the Department in 2019.

The promotions took effect on July 1.
