The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing a continuous weekend closure of Route 140, Bridge Street Bridge over the Windsor Locks Canal and Connecticut River. The closure will be in effect from 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 25 until 5:00 a.m. on Monday, September 28, 2026.
This weekend road closure is being utilized to allow Amtrak to cutover and test the Bridge Street Grade Crossing signal system. (Train service will not be impacted).
DOT Project No. 0320-0026 was awarded to Walsh Construction Company II., LLC. at a cost of ($37,167,000.00) on May 14, 2025, and is scheduled to be completed November 23, 2027. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 5 in New Haven.
LANE CLOSURE/DETOUR INFO
Route 140 will be continuously closed to all traffic from 6:00 p.m. on September 25 until approximately 5 :00 a.m. on September 28, 2026. Detour signs and changeable message boards will be used to direct traffic.
Local resident access will be maintained from Route 159. Access to both the Montgomery Mills Apartments Building and Ahlstrom's facility will be from the East end of Bridge Street.
