Austin ISD to provide free meals for all students at 69 Schools (En español)

For the 2026-27 school year, Austin ISD will offer free breakfast and lunch to all students at 69 campuses through the federally funded Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program (schools are listed below).

The CEP is a federal meal service option that allows schools in qualifying low-income areas to serve free meals to all enrolled students, no applications or documentation required.

At campuses not eligible for CEP, students will receive meals based on their meal status (free, reduced-price, or paid). Thanks to funding from the Texas Legislature, students approved for reduced-price meals will receive both breakfast and lunch at no cost during the 2026-27 school year.

How to Receive Free or Reduced Price Meals at Schools Not Participating in the CEP

• Direct certification through state-funded benefits such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).
• Direct certification through enrollment in foster care; migrant, homeless, or runaway programs; Head Start or Early Head Start programs.
• Determined eligible by creating an account and completing an Austin ISD free or reduced-price meal benefits application at www.SchoolCafe.com/AustinISD. Paper applications are also available at schools.

Students not eligible for free or reduced-price meals may purchase healthy, tasty school breakfast and lunch meals at a minimal cost.

• Full Price - Middle & High Schools: $2.15
• Reduced-Price (All Levels): FREE
• Adult/Guest: $3.50

Lunch:

• Full Price - Elementary Schools: $3.40

• Adult/Guest: $5.25

Meal Charging Policy Notice

Students may charge up to the equivalent of five breakfast meals and five lunch meals if they have insufficient funds in their meal account. À la carte items may not be charged. Austin ISD will notify households when a student's meal account has a low or negative balance by letter, email, or text message and will request payment.

Once the meal charge limit has been reached, students whose accounts have not been replenished will receive a courtesy meal at lunch. There is no limit to the number of courtesy meals a student may receive. Cafeteria staff will also work with campus administration to identify students who may qualify for free or reduced-price meal benefits.

Austin ISD works with local agencies to identify all children who are eligible for free or reduced-price meals through state funded programs and will notify the households of these children that they do not need to complete an application.

Any family that does not receive a notification and believes they may qualify for free or reduced-price meals, or wishes to decline meal benefits, may contact Austin ISD Food Service at 512-414-0251.

Families may submit meal benefit applications anytime during the school year. The information households provide on the application will be used for the purpose of determining eligibility. Austin ISD follows the Texas Department of Agriculture income guidelines to determine if a student is eligible for free or reduced-price meals.

El AISD proveerá comidas gratis para todos los estudiantes en 69 escuelas

En el ciclo escolar 2026-27, el Austin ISD ofrecerá desayuno y almuerzo gratis a todos los estudiantes en 69 escuelas a través del programa Disposición de Elegibilidad Comunitaria (CEP, por sus siglas en inglés), financiado a nivel federal (la lista de escuelas está abajo).

La CEP es una opción federal de servicios alimentarios que les permite a las escuelas en áreas de bajos ingresos que cumplan con los requisitos servir comidas gratis para todos los estudiantes matriculados, sin necesidad de solicitudes o documentación.

En las escuelas que no son elegibles para la CEP, los estudiantes recibirán comidas con base en su estado para las comidas (gratis, a precio reducido o pagado). Gracias al financiamiento de la Legislatura de Texas, los estudiantes aprobados para comidas a precio reducido recibirán tanto desayuno como almuerzo sin costo alguno durante el ciclo escolar 2026-27.

Cómo recibir comidas gratis o a precio reducido en las escuelas que no participan en la CEP

Aviso sobre la Política de Crédito para Comidas Escolares

Los estudiantes podrán recibir comidas a crédito por un monto equivalente a hasta cinco desayunos y cinco almuerzos si no cuentan con fondos suficientes en su cuenta de comidas. Los artículos a la carta no podrán cargarse a crédito. Austin ISD notificará a las familias cuando la cuenta de comidas de un estudiante tenga un saldo bajo o negativo mediante carta, correo electrónico o mensaje de texto, y solicitará el pago correspondiente.

Una vez que se haya alcanzado el límite de crédito para comidas y la cuenta no haya sido reabastecida, el estudiante recibirá un almuerzo de cortesía. No existe un límite en la cantidad de almuerzos de cortesía que un estudiante puede recibir.
