NDFU urges Congress to pass Farm Bill before end of year

North Dakota Farmers Union is urging Congress to get to work on passing a Farm Bill and deliver meaningful farm policy for family farmers and ranchers before the end of the year.

"Farmers and ranchers continue to be plagued by high input costs and market uncertainty," NDFU President Matt Perdue said. "The election is over. The politics are behind us. Now, Congress needs to focus on the policy."

NDFU is calling on lawmakers to build on the progress made in both chambers, and advance priorities such as year-round E15, mandatory country-of-origin labeling for beef and greater fertilizer price transparency. Congress must also work together to resolve outstanding differences in the nutrition title and move a comprehensive Farm Bill across the finish line.

"You cannot build a future for American agriculture on temporary extensions," Perdue said. "We need a farm bill that works for family farmers and ranchers, and we need it this year."
