Big, Beautiful Success Story: Across the Country, Servers Are Keeping More of What They Earn Thanks to No Tax on Tips

Big, Beautiful Success Story: Across the Country, Servers Are Keeping More of What They Earn Thanks to No Tax on Tips

WASHINGTON, D.C. - All over the United States, members of the Ways and Means Committee are hearing directly from servers, bartenders, and the small business owners who employ them about how No Tax on Tips, one of President Trump's signature policies included in the Working Families Tax Cuts, is putting real money back in their pockets.

Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (MO-08) issued the following statement:

"Republicans built the Working Families Tax Cuts to provide tax relief to people who show up to work every day and put in long hours, and No Tax on Tips is delivering exactly that. From Texas to Nebraska and beyond, servers, bartenders, and other tipped workers are telling us the same thing. I think of the young waitress from Southeast Missouri in my district who came up to me to say how meaningful it was to receive a tax refund of over $10,000. She's a single mother of three who works overtime waiting tables, and thanks to several provisions in the Working Families Tax Cuts, like No Tax on Tips, that refund will cover her rent for a year, plus some groceries. Folks like her and countless others across the country are finally getting to keep more of what they earn instead of watching it disappear before it ever reaches their pocket. That is real relief, delivered by Republicans who designed these policies for the benefit of working families, not Washington."

In Texas, Representative Nathaniel Moran (TX-01) spoke with Tiffany, a server at Mercado's Cafe in Tyler and a mother of four with 10 years in the restaurant industry, about what No Tax on Tips means for her family:

"So I did see a little bit in my tax return, but this year, since it's the full year, I feel like it's going to increase my tax return a lot this time. I'm glad that that was even a topic to be brought up because sometimes being a server, waitress, bartender, I feel like we get a little less looked upon. That was great that somebody even acknowledged that for us. It was great."

In Nebraska, Representative Adrian Smith (NE-03) got a firsthand account from Ava, who waited on his table during a recent stop at Ole's Big Game Steakhouse & Lounge in Paxton. She told him No Tax on Tips puts money back in the pockets of service workers and can make a meaningful difference when it comes to covering their bills:

"As someone who works in the service industry and depends on tips, I can see how much tips affect the other people I work with. It's not just extra spending money for us; it is money that goes to paying our bills. And as someone who does taxes as a side business, I see how much that helps people at the end of the year, including me, get that tax return back with the taxes that we had paid on our tips."

In Texas, Representative Beth Van Duyne (TX-24) sat down with restaurant owner Nino Rata to hear what No Tax on Tips means for him and his staff. At Acquario in Colleyville, Rata said the provision is helping him retain his staff and supporting plans to expand their small business to more locations:

"No Tax on Tips… [is] great with the families [of] our servers, because they work hard for their tips… they put the money in their pocket they earned. So, basically a reward to reward them… We are able to retain the staff and we're able to expand to the second one, maybe to a third location. So it was just great. We just want to thank President Trump for a Big, Beautiful bill."
