Maine Publishes Solar and Energy Storage Handbook for Maine Communities
In January 2026, the Maine Department of Energy Resources published a new resource, Solar and Energy Storage Handbook for Maine Communities: A Planning Resource to Support the Responsible Development of Solar and Battery Energy Storage Projects. The handbook serves to assist local communities in planning for the development of solar and battery energy storage projects by providing guidance and materials on the following:
- Solar and energy storage technology basics
- Local project case studies
- Solar and energy storage frequently asked questions
- Overview of relevant state and federal regulations
- Land use policy considerations
- Model ordinance language
