James, Hutchinson: More Than $33,000 in State Funding Allocated to Oil City, Cornplanter Township

August 31, 2026

HARRISBURG - Rep. Lee James (R-64) and Sen. Scott Hutchinson (R-21) announced Oil City and Cornplanter Township were awarded $33,107 combined in state funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development's (DCED) Municipal Assistance Program (MAP). MAP funding can be used to help municipalities and other eligible applicants with activities such as community planning and implementation.

According to James and Hutchinson, the money will be used to update the 2011 Northern Venango Multi-Municipal Plan to address pressing resident needs.

"Seeing this backing from the state level signifies a strong belief in a bright future in Oil City and Cornplanter Township," said James. "By encouraging responsible development, creating new housing options, boosting recreational options and enhancing localized planning, we can attract more families to live, work and raise a family in Venango County."

"This grant is an important investment in the future of Oil City and Cornplanter Township," said Hutchinson. "By updating the comprehensive plan, these communities can work together to encourage thoughtful development, expand housing and recreational opportunities, and ensure local planning reflects the needs of residents today and for years to come."

According to DCED, the next round of available funding will be in the spring. The deadline to apply is April 1, 2027.
