Colorado Announces New myColoradoⓇ Mobile Driver License (mDL), Offering a Secure, Convenient Way to Get Through TSA

DENVER, August 31, 2026 - Today, Governor Polis announced the launch of the myColorado® Mobile Driver License (mDL). Coloradans with a state-issued driver license or identification card can add their mDL to their myColorado app and use it to provide proof of identity at Denver International Airport TSA security checkpoints and more than 250 participating airports when traveling outside of Colorado.

The myColorado mDL leverages international identity verification standards to allow seamless, privacy-focused screening without the traveler having to hand over their physical ID, boarding pass or smartphone. A quick QR code and live photo taken at the checkpoint reader verifies identity, flight details, and screening type for a simplified, convenient experience.

"Finally! You can use your myColorado app to fly at the airport! We have been working on this for years and now the federal government will accept your myColorado app identification at airport security. I have prioritized delivering modern, digital government services for our residents and the myColorado app saves people time and makes life easier for Coloradans. Airport travel can be stressful but we are making it easier, and more convenient to get through TSA at more than 250 airports across the country using the myColorado app. More than 2 million Coloradans already use the app to access digital IDs, hunting and fishing licenses, vehicle registrations, age verification, and more, now we can use it for more convenient travel," said Governor Polis.

The myColorado mDL is a new digital credential that is separate from the app's flagship Colorado Digital ID™. Both are available in the myColorado Wallet, but only the mDL is accepted by TSA. Add your mDL to your myColorado app today.

Coloradans can choose to add their mDL in up to two DMV-approved digital wallets, including myColorado. No matter which digital option they choose, Coloradans should still carry their physical driver license or state-issued ID card as a backup.

Coloradans planning to use the new mDL while traveling should get TSA ready: Update your myColorado app and add their mDL before arriving at the airport. This ensures you have the latest app version and full functionality prior to TSA screening. Coloradans are suggested to bring your physical ID along also the first couple times you use it for backup, but now your myColorado Mobile Drivers License should get you through TSA smoothly.

The myColorado app is available for download in the App Store and Google Play. To create an account and to add their mDL to the app, myColorado users must have a valid Colorado driver license or state-issued ID card.
