New Permanent Representative of Peru Presents Credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva

Elmer José German Gonzálo Schialer Salcedo, the new Permanent Representative of Peru to the United Nations Office at Geneva, today presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Mr. Schialer Salcedo had been serving as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Peru from September 2024 to October 2025. He served as Executive Director of the Peru Chapter of the Binational Development Plan of the Peru-Ecuador Border Region in 2024, and as Secretary General of Foreign Affairs between 2023 and 2024.

Mr. Schialer Salcedo served as Ambassador of Peru to Germany from 2017 to 2023 and as Director General of the General Secretariat of the Andean Community between 2014 and 2017, during which time he led reform efforts to relaunch the organization.

In addition, Mr. Schialer Salcedo served as Deputy Permanent Representative of Peru to the international organizations in Geneva between 2007 and 2011. He also held posts at the embassies of Peru in Washington, La Paz and Mexico, as well as in the Permanent Mission of Peru to the United Nations in New York.

Mr. Schialer Salcedo holds a degree in international relations from the Diplomatic Academy of Peru and a master's degree in economics from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. He also completed postgraduate studies in systems engineering at the National University of Engineering.
