Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, on 5 March 2026, met with Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, H.E. Motegi Toshimitsu, in Tokyo, Japan, on the sidelines of his participation in the Symposium on Economic Resilience Strategy for Japan and ASEAN. Both sides exchanged views on ASEAN-Japan relations and sought ways to further advance the ASEAN-Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership that is substantive, meaningful and mutually beneficial as well as support for ASEAN Community building. They agreed to work closely together to promote ASEAN-Japan cooperation in line with the Vision Statement on ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation Trusted Partners and its Implementation Plan adopted in 2023 as well as the Joint Leaders' Statement on Further Promotion and Implementation of the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP) adopted in 2025.
