Greater Dayton RTA to host hiring event Sept. 17

(DAYTON, OHIO) - The Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority (RTA) is inviting job seekers to explore new career opportunities at a hiring event Thursday, Sept. 17, from 9 a.m. to noon and 2 to 6 p.m. at Goodwill Easter Seals, 660 S. Main St., in Dayton. RTA is focused on hiring bus drivers and service and repair mechanics and will conduct interviews on the spot.

All applicants for bus driver positions must have a valid driver's license. Those interested in becoming a CDL bus driver must obtain a Class B commercial learner's permit with a passenger endorsement before starting. RTA offers paid, on-the-job CDL training through its on-site training department.

The starting wage for RTA drivers with a CDL is $20.70 per hour and increases to $34.50 by year six. For drivers without a CDL, the starting wage is $18.80 per hour and increases to $22.43 by year six.

RTA is also hiring service and repair mechanics. The position requires two years of experience in the automotive or heavy-vehicle maintenance field. Graduation from a two-year technical school for automotive or heavy-duty diesel repair will be considered in place of work experience. Successful applicants will be required to pass a certification test. Starting pay is $32.78 per hour and increases to $35.81 per hour by year five.

In addition to competitive pay, RTA offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes a 14 percent contribution to state retirement, medical and dental insurance, paid time off and access to on-site fitness centers.
