Chairman Babin Warns Risks to U.S. Science from Impending Government Shutdown

119th Congress

September 30, 2025

(Washington, D.C.) - Today, House Science, Space, and Technology Committee Chairman Brian Babin released the following statement regarding the impending government shutdown.

"A government shutdown threatens to grind America's science and technology enterprise to a halt," Chairman Babin said. "Critical NASA missions with national security implications could be delayed, and cutting-edge research could be stalled. Our ability to prepare for extreme weather events and improve forecasting could also suffer, leaving Americans more vulnerable-especially as hurricane season continues. The House did its work to maintain government operations with a clean continuing resolution. Senate Democrats are driving us toward a shutdown that will put America's leadership in space, science, and innovation at risk-plain and simple."
