Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach invites the community to attend a celebration event for the grand opening of the new Silverado Park Signature Playground. The event will be held at noon on Friday, Sept. 12, 2025, at Silverado Park (1545 W. 31st St.) and will feature remarks by Mayor Rex Richardson, Vice Mayor and Seventh District Councilmember Roberto Uranga and other City leaders, followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony and open use of the new playground.

"With the Silverado Park Signature Playground, we're celebrating a major transformation in the heart of West Long Beach and showing what's possible when we work together and put our promises into action," said Mayor Rex Richardson. "Through the Westside Promise, we remain committed to investing in the Westside and ensuring the families who call it home can thrive, and this project delivers on that commitment by providing our vibrant community a safe, accessible and inspiring place to gather and play."

An Elevate '28 project, the Silverado Park Signature Playground was designed to encourage sensory, physical and imaginative play and create an inviting, more accessible environment for the community. The playground features two distinct areas for preschoolers (ages 2-5) and school-age children (ages 5-12), with a design that reflects the vibrant colors and theme of the park's mural, We are the Seeds by Mer Young.

Additional improvements include new inclusive play equipment and site furnishings, level concrete at the gym's entrance, an Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant pathway with a ramp to the play equipment, accessible picnic tables, a rubberized playground surface for added protection and additional benches and picnic tables in the playground area. These improvements will enhance the visitor experience and extend the useful life of the facility for years to come.

"The Silverado Park Signature Playground is a beautiful space that encourages new ways to play, uplifts our diverse community and creates more opportunities for people to come together and celebrate what makes West Long Beach special," said Vice Mayor and Seventh District Councilmember Roberto Uranga. "This project also embodies our continued investment in building a stronger, healthier and more vibrant West Long Beach as part of our Westside Promise. We are thrilled to commemorate this milestone with our community on Sept. 12."

The Silverado Park Signature Playground Project aligns with the Westside Promise, a 10-year community investment plan that aligns existing City efforts and leverages partnerships to address current and historic challenges facing West Long Beach. The $2.45 million project is funded by $1.5 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Community Development Fund, advocated for by former Congressman Alan Lowenthal, $200,000 of Measure A funds and $750,000 from the Elevate '28 Infrastructure Investment Plan. Construction for the project began in March 2025 and was completed in early September 2025.

Elevate '28 is a comprehensive five-year infrastructure initiative designed to revitalize parks and community facilities while enhancing accessibility and multimodal transportation throughout Long Beach. For more information about Elevate '28, visit lbelevate28.com.
