Chicago - Attorney General Kwame Raoul today issued the following statement regarding the passing of former Gov. Jim Edgar, Illinois' 38th governor.
"Gov. Edgar's service to the people of Illinois did not end with his time in office, and his legacy will be of bridging the divide between people. Whether he was advocating for fiscal responsibility, trying to make our roads safer or working with former First Lady Brenda Edgar to find loving homes for children, he did so with integrity. His message of debating differing ideas and differing policies with civility has never been more important.
"Through his Edgar Fellows program, Gov. Edgar has continued to serve the state by encouraging hundreds of leaders around Illinois to work across party and regional lines to enact policies that improve the quality of life for Illinois residents. May those of us who serve honor his memory by doing so with integrity, by working across the aisle, and by remembering that even now, we can disagree without being disagreeable.
"My thoughts are with Gov. Edgar's college sweetheart Brenda, their children, grandchildren and all who knew and loved him."
