Moul Announces Grants Totaling $1.1 Million in 91st District

HARRISBURG - Today, Rep. Dan Moul (R-Adams) announced that five municipalities or local municipal authorities in his legislative district have been awarded $1,110,214 in state gaming revenue under the Local Share Account (LSA) program.

Each year, the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA), an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), which holds fiduciary responsibility over the funding of programs and investments on behalf of the Commonwealth, distributes the state's share of gaming revenue to local governments and programs.

"I advocated for these grants, and I was pleased to learn this morning that they were approved by the CFA," said Moul. "The grants will address critical needs in these communities and will cover a significant portion, if not all, of the total project costs. Because the funding comes from state gaming revenues, it will defray any costs to taxpayers."

The following LSA grants were approved today:

Bonneauville Borough - $110,214 for a storm sewer project to improve the reliability of its public water system through the purchase of a portable generator and upgrading three wells to safely support emergency power.

Carroll Valley Borough - $500,000 for a project to expand its sanitary sewer infrastructure along Country Club Trail Road and adjacent roads to accommodate growing development along the western side of McKee Hill.

Fairfield Municipal Authority - $300,000 to upgrade sanitary sewers in Fairfield Borough. The degradation of vitrified clay pipes (VCP) installed in the 1960s has led to issues with inflow and infiltration leading to leakages. The project will replace about 1,340 linear feet of VCP with PVC pipes and repair or replace affiliated concrete sanitary utility holes.

Franklin Township Municipal Authority - $100,000 to purchase and install generators at its two well sites in Franklin Township to ensure its customers are not without drinking water. In June, a fire at an Adams County electrical substation left thousands of residents without power for nearly four days. This project will give the municipal authority a reliable source of power at its well sites and uninterrupted water service should the power go out again for an extended period.

McSherrystown Borough - $100,000 for the purchase of municipal equipment, including a new skid loader and attachments replace existing equipment that has become unsafe and inoperable. The new equipment will be used year-round to repair and maintain roads, community parks, athletic fields, walking paths, and the senior center property; perform snow removal and street cleaning; and enhance the recycling program.

"We all rely on safe drinking water, working sanitary sewer systems and well-equipped public safety infrastructure to keep us and our communities safe and healthy," Moul said.
