UNESCO convenes Nordic–Gulf dialogue to advance cooperation in Peace Mediation and Human Capital

9 December, Doha, Qatar - The UNESCO Regional Office for the Gulf States and Yemen, in cooperation with the Embassy of Finland in Doha, orgenized the seminar "Exploring Avenues for Nordic-Gulf Cooperation on Peace Mediation and Human Capital" at the UN House in Doha. The event brought together policymakers, experts, and representatives from Qatar, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, and Nordic states to discuss new pathways for collaboration in peace mediation, conflict resolution, and human capital development for future-ready economies.

The seminar highlighted the shared priorities of the Nordic and Gulf regions in peacebuilding , education , and sustainable development , underscoring the strong foundation for deeper cooperation . Participants explored how both regions can align their strengths - drawing on the Nordic tradition of mediation and the Gulf's active commitment to diplomacy and inclusive dialogue .

Discussions focused on opportunities to co-develop innovative approaches to mediation , enhance capacity-building in conflict prevention , and support efforts to build resilient education systems capable of preparing youth for emerging economic landscapes . Speakers emphasized the importance of human capital as a driver of peace and stability , noting that both regions face similar challenges in navigating global transformations .
