HONOLULU - The Hawai'I Department of Transportation (HDOT) notifies highway users of a two-lane closure on the H-2 Freeway in both directions between Ka Uka Boulevard and milepost 3.5 on Monday, Oct. 5, to Thursday, Oct. 8, for Hawaiian Electric Company (HECO) to replace utility poles and lines along the freeway.
The two right lanes and shoulder will be closed on the northbound H-2 Freeway from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 5, through Thursday, Oct. 8, between Ka Uka Boulevard and milepost 3.5, as crews work to replace poles.
In addition, on Tuesday, Oct. 6, and Wednesday, Oct. 7, the two right southbound lanes and shoulder will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to support utility line installations to new poles. Two travel lanes will remain open in both directions during this work.
Due to the size, complexity and coordination of this work, daytime work hours were deemed necessary. HECO will require the use of a crane throughout the duration of this work. Due to the overall footprint of the crane and its supports, it will remain staged in the shoulder and two northbound lanes of the H-2 Freeway until work is completed.
HDOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, be aware of all traffic control signs and barriers ̶ and plan commutes ahead of time. Special duty police officers will be on-site assisting with safety procedures.
Electronic message boards will be posted along the H-2 Freeway to alert road users. Please note, all work is weather permitting and is subject to change per these conditions.
