More than 350 employees volunteer with nonprofits across the company's service area
(LOUISVILLE, Ky.) - Today, more than 350 employees of Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company volunteered alongside 26 local nonprofit organizations that provide important programs and services for communities across the company's service area. It's part of an enterprise-wide annual event called Day of Caring. Volunteer projects include organizing donations such as non-perishable food items and medical supplies, completing landscape and cleanup work, preparing meals and supporting facility improvement projects.
Day of Caring is part of the annual employee-giving campaign, Power of One, held by PPL and its companies that brings together monetary giving and volunteerism in the communities where employees live and work in Kentucky, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island.
Over the past six years alone, LG&E and KU's local Power of One campaign has raised nearly $2 million annually through employee donations and with support from the LG&E and KU Foundation.
"Day of Caring is a powerful reflection of our employees' commitment to showing up, lending a hand and serving the communities we call home," said Mary Kate Gray, Manager of Corporate Responsibility and Community Affairs. "Through Power of One, our employees continue to make a meaningful difference by giving their time, talents and resources to support organizations that help our neighbors thrive."
Since the Power of One campaign began in 2005, LG&E and KU employees, with support of the Foundation, have helped raise more than $35 million. Giving back to the communities where employees live and work is a long-standing tradition at LG&E and KU.
