House Republicans Fight Radical Environmentalists to Keep Communities Safer from Wildfires

WASHINGTON
-House Republicans passed H.R. 6387, the FIRE Act, legislation led by Rep. Gabe Evans (R-Colo.) that will empower states to take preventative action and prevent catastrophic wildfires.

House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) and Rep. Evans released the following statements:

"Radical environmentalists have made our communities less safe, wildfires more dangerous, and natural disasters more costly," Chairwoman McClain said. "Here's the truth: Democrats trust bureaucrats more than the people on the ground who actually know what's at stake. That's backwards. Republicans are putting power back where it belongs, giving states the freedom to act before disaster strikes and keeping our communities - and our families - safer in the process."

"For years, Colorado's economy has been burdened by costly, poorly designed regulations that punish small businesses, employers, and families for emissions they can't control - raising costs, stifling job growth, and making it harder for communities to thrive," Congressman Gabe Evans said. "The FIRE Act is a commonsense solution that lowers costs, slashes red tape, restores fairness, incentivizes wildfire mitigation, and prioritizes practical preventative steps that protect public health while improving air quality."

The FIRE Act updates the Clean Air Act to better account for prescribed burns and other approved wildfire mitigation efforts. The bill also improves transparency by requiring the EPA to provide regional analysis and public updates on wildfire and exceptional event petitions.
