STATEMENT: Major Disaster Declaration Approval for Typhoon Sinlaku

(Washington D.C.) - "I welcome President Trump's approval of a Major Disaster Declaration for Guam following Super Typhoon Sinlaku. This declaration unlocks critical federal resources to support our island's recovery efforts and represents an important first step in ensuring Guam receives the assistance it needs.

Since the storm, my office has remained in close coordination with Governor Leon Guerrero, FEMA, local officials, and our federal partners to advocate for this declaration and support Guam's ongoing recovery.

As our island now prepares for the potential impacts of Typhoon Bavi, this declaration comes at a critical time. It will help ensure our government has the federal resources necessary to continue recovering from Super Typhoon Sinlaku while remaining prepared to respond to any additional challenges that may lie ahead.

While today's announcement is welcome news, our work is not finished. I will continue advocating for Individual Assistance so that Guam's families who were impacted by Super Typhoon Sinlaku can receive the federal support they need to recover and rebuild. In the meantime, I encourage everyone to stay informed through official updates, review your emergency preparedness plans, and continue looking out for one another as we prepare for the days ahead."
