A book-or rather, a collaborative work-that looks back on the 115-year history of the Aerotechnical Institute of Saint-Cyr-l'École.
The book was published at the initiative of the French Aeronautics and Astronautics Association (3AF), which drew on the work of technicians, engineers, researchers, and clients of the Institut Aérotechnique. "Aerotechnical Institute: 115 Years of Research and Innovation" highlights the school's core principles and the many innovations to which it has contributed. It also pays tribute to the distinguished members who have shaped the history of this leading French center for aerodynamic research and experimentation.
Intended primarily for high school and college students who wish to discover or learn more about this leading research institution, the book is divided into six chapters covering the following topics: a historical overview of the context surrounding the Institute's founding; work on the facilities from 1911 to 1984; contributions by Charles Maurain, Albert Toussaint, Frédéric Gruson, and Maurice Ménard (four engineers who served successively as directors of the Institute from 1911 to 1992); testimonials from staff members and clients; long-term results and shared expertise; and patents filed from the institution's inception to the present day. This book is sure to rekindle memories for some and inspire others to pursue careers in the field.
