Information about discoloration of water in NW Norman

August 24, 2026

Due to temporary water treatment challenges that have altered the color of purchased water from the City of Oklahoma City, the City of Norman has paused its water connection from Oklahoma City. We understand all water to be safe, despite the color alteration. Learn more about the situation on the City of Oklahoma City's website here. Following communication from concerned residents in Norman, additional information was obtained by staff and the pause was put into place. Purchased water from Oklahoma City is primarily distributed to northwest areas of Norman. For the time being, more water will be pumped through City of Norman wells to accommodate for what is normally purchased. Additional flushing will occur in area of northwest Norman to help ensure water is clear, but some residents may also opt to run water through their faucets if discoloration is present. Thank you.
