Bruce County Aware of Fraudulent Invoice-Related Emails

Bruce County is aware of fraudulent emails circulating that appear to originate from Bruce County email accounts. We are actively investigating these incidents and encourage residents and property owners to remain vigilant.

These emails may contain invoices, County logos, branding, or other details designed to appear legitimate. In at least one reported incident, the sender requested payment through an e-transfer to an external email address.

Bruce County will never request payment through an e-transfer, and does not accept e-transfers as payment.

Legitimate Bruce County email communications are sent from email addresses ending in @brucecounty.on.ca. However, fraudulent emails can sometimes be designed to imitate trusted organizations and may appear convincing. If you have any doubts about the legitimacy of an email, please contact Bruce County directly using information available on our website before taking any action.

If you receive an email that appears suspicious:

  1. Do not click on any links or open attachments.
  2. Do not send payment or provide personal information.
  3. Verify the request by contacting Bruce County directly using contact information published on our website or by confirming that the sender's email address ends with @brucecounty.on.ca.
  4. Report the email as spam or phishing.
  5. If you remain unsure, contact Bruce County directly before responding, providing payment, or sharing personal information.
