Philly Bike Ride returns for fifth annual “cruise at your own pace” car free social bike ride

Annual event returns with new festival experiences, iconic views and fun for all ages

Philly Bike Ride is thrilled to announce the return of its event on Saturday, October 17, 2026, beginning at 7:30 a.m. Now celebrating its fifth year, Philly Bike Ride has become a mainstay on Philadelphia's fall event calendar, drawing riders from across the United States and abroad. The ride is expected to welcome 7,000 riders for the city's only car-free social bike ride, inviting cyclists of all ages and abilities to experience the city from a unique perspective.

Philly Bike Ride offers the ultimate "Cruise At Your Own Pace" experience with a 20-mile, car-free route through the heart of the city. Riders can take in iconic landmarks including Independence Hall, City Hall, LOVE Park, Chinatown, Penn's Landing and Boathouse Row without vehicle traffic. Whether you're a first-time rider, weekend cruiser or seasoned cyclist, the event provides a safe and welcoming experience for everyone.

"Five years ago, we set out to create an event that celebrated this great community, encouraged people to get active and made cycling accessible to everyone," said Chris Browne, Managing Director of Philly Bike Ride. "With support from our partners at Visit Pennsylvania and Independence Blue Cross, our ride has become one of the city's signature fall traditions. Each year we continue to build on the experience with new partners, surprises and ways for riders to have fun while supporting access to bicycling education and healthier communities."

Participants can choose between the full 20-mile course or a shorter 7.6 mile family-friendly route, both ending near the iconic Philadelphia Museum of Art and Rocky Steps where the Visit Pennsylvania Finish Festival awaits. This year's celebration will feature new food partners, live entertainment, and interactive experiences throughout the festival grounds and an enhanced Beverage Garden, creating an even bigger post-ride celebration for participants.

Returning for a fourth consecutive year, Independence Blue Cross (IBX) will once again serve as an official event partner, continuing its longstanding investment in creating healthier communities through cycling. In addition to sponsoring the event's popular Well-Being Zone, IBX continues to support cycling initiatives across the region, including Indego bike-share, helping expand access to biking and encouraging healthier lifestyles for Philadelphians.

"Biking is a simple yet powerful way to support both physical and mental well-being, while helping people connect with the community and city around them. For five years, Philly Bike Ride has provided an opportunity to bring people together while celebrating movement, wellness, and Philadelphia itself. All of us at IBX are proud to continue investing in programs that make biking fun and accessible," said Dr. Domenick Bucci, vice president of Medical Management and Medical Policy at Independence Blue Cross.

A portion of the event proceeds benefit the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia, supporting programs that introduce young people to cycling and create healthier futures. Through initiatives including their Youth Cycling Program and workforce development programming, the Coalition is helping students gain confidence, develop lifelong healthy habits and build valuable skills both on and off the bike.

Proceeds also support the Graduation on Wheels program that launched in 2025, aiming to create cycling education in Philadelphia public schools. Last year, 170 students at Logan Elementary School were awarded bikes, helmets and locks for completing the first ever cycling education curriculum rolled into their Physical Education classes.

With thousands of riders already registered, Philly Bike Ride makes participating easy and inclusive with affordable bike rentals available for riders who don't own a bike, out-of-town visitors, or groups looking for a fun outdoor outing. Before the October 17 event, attendees are invited to join the Packet Pickup Party on October 16. This party, along with the Finish Festival, is free and open to the public. The ride is created for participants of all ages (3+) and cycling levels. Riders ages 3-7 years old are free to ride, and children 8-17 are always half price. Adult standard registration ranges from $85-$185 (up-to-date pricing can be found on the website). Bike and helmet rentals, and commemorative cycling jerseys and t-shirts are also available. Registration includes a 2026 Philly Bike Ride water bottle, access to the 20-mile car-free course, and Rider ID Kit. Premier hospitality packages and group pricing are also available.
