Terra State Community College is proud to recognize Janelle Sica, of Findlay, Ohio, as the February Rotary Student of the Month.
Sica is a Business Management major at Terra State Community Collegeand a 2024 graduate of Van Buren High School. During high school, she was actively involved in Student Council for four years and participated in both color guard and winter guard throughout her high school career.
Sica chose Terra State for its small class sizes, strong business program, and the opportunity to build close connections with fellow students "I felt like I wouldn't just be a number on campus, but a person who was recognized and supported," she said. After touring the campus, she knew Terra State was the right fit.
Throughout her time at Terra State, Sica has demonstrated exceptional leadership and involvement. She currently serves as Student Government Presidentand Book Club President, and as Vice President of Spirit Club. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society, a Student Ambassador, a Resident Assistant at The Landings, a student worker, and a student representative on multiple campus committees. She has also earned placement on the Dean's List.
"Serving in leadership roles has taught me that leadership is more than just leading people,"Sica said. "It's about creating a space where others feel supported and seen and making a meaningful impact on others and the community around me."
In addition to her campus involvement, Sica is active in the community as a mentor with Children's Mentoring Connection of Hancock County. She also serves as a transportation intern with Van Buren Local Schools Transportation Department, a role she began during high school and continues today.
Sica's passion for transportation management began early, inspired by a mentor who worked as a school bus driver. She graduated high school with more than 500 hours of transportation experience and plans to earn her CDL this summer. Her long-term goals include completing a bachelor's degree in business management or supply chain management and advancing into a transportation supervisor or management role.
Outside of academics, Sica enjoys reading and spending time with friends. She credits her success to the unwavering support of her mother, family, friends, mentor, and the lasting inspiration of her late father.
Terra State Community College congratulates Janelle Sica on being named February Rotary Student of the Month and commends her dedication to leadership, service, and academic excellence.
