Australian Reinsurance Pool Corporation (ARPC) has released its latest quarterly Cyclone Reinsurance Pool statistics, showing continued growth in coverage and ongoing support for households and small businesses in cyclone-prone regions.
The cyclone pool now reinsures approximately 3.2 million properties, reflecting continued expansion as insurer participation matures.
Key findings
Claims activity
As at 31 December 2025, the cyclone pool has received more than 126,000 claims, with a total net incurred value of approximately $1.4 billion.
Recent claims activity has been driven by major cyclone events, including Cyclone Alfred, highlighting the pool's role in supporting insurers following significant disasters.
Mitigation and resilience
The cyclone pool continues to support risk reduction through premium incentives. As at 31 December 2025, $9 million in mitigation discounts has been applied to in-force premiums.
Uptake of mitigation measures are expected to increase over time as insurers enhance data collection and policyholders respond to premium changes.
Coverage insights
All properties reinsured through the cyclone pool include cyclone wind cover, with strong levels of flood cover across Home policies (around 87%) and varying levels of storm surge cover depending on location.
Premiums continue to reflect underlying risk, with higher average premiums observed in the most cyclone-exposed regions of northern Australia.
