MONTOURSVILLE - Hundreds of area seniors packed into the Community Baptist Church on Thursday for a senior expo sponsored by state Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23) and state Rep. Joe Hamm (R-84).
"The amount of information out there for our older residents can be overwhelming," Yaw said. "This free expo brought it all under one roof so our area senior citizens and their caregivers could ask questions and get answers on the spot."
"It was truly a blessing to see so many in our community take advantage of all the resources found at our senior expo," Hamm said. "Our senior expo is a one-stop shop and makes it easy for our senior citizens to find resources available to them. At a time when so many people are struggling to make ends meet due to high grocery prices, utility bills and prescription prices, our senior expo provides them with the information on programs and resources that are here to assist them."
Nearly 100 exhibitors were on hand to provide the most current information on state programs and services available to area seniors.
Vendors shared information about health care, insurance, nutrition and exercise, financial planning, government services and more. Complimentary document shredding was provided by North Central Sight Services, and the Lycoming County Sheriff provided a prescription medicine return drop box for unused or expired medications. Also returning this year was the CarFit program provided by AARP, the American Occupational Therapy Association and Geisinger Medical Center.
The legislators also thanked the Community Baptist Church for allowing them the opportunity to hold the event at that location.
This was the 16th year the senator has been holding this event, previously with state Rep. Garth Everett and now Hamm.
