On the Hill: Possible Reconciliation 2.0

House Republicans are holding their annual legislative retreat this week in Doral, Florida, where Reconciliation 2.0 will be a major topic of conversation. Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and House GOP leaders will gauge their conference's interest for a second package, and House Budget Committee Chair Jodey Arrington (R-Texas) will present potential budget cuts, including targeting additional "waste, fraud and abuse."

Last week, the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions held a hearing focused on using data to improve patient outcomes. Committee Republicans focused on expanding patient access to health information through digital technologies while addressing barriers that limit interoperability across electronic health record systems. Committee Democrats raised largely similar concerns about improving interoperability, strengthening data systems, and ensuring digital health modernization benefits patients and providers.

This week, the committee will hold a roundtable on the Patients Deserve Price Tags Act, S. 2355, introduced by Sen. John Hickenlooper (D-Colo.) and Roger Marshall (R-Kan.). Various hospital groups will be represented, included America's Essential Hospitals. Our association opposes the legislation; while framed as a health care transparency measure, the bill would impose significant administrative burdens and financial penalties while creating harmful operational challenges for our hospitals.
