Residents interested in solar energy solutions for their homes can now take part in a new program that offers educational resources and group-buying opportunities that can help them save thousands of dollars on solar installations.

In partnership with Solar United Neighbors (SUN), a national nonprofit focused on solar energy education and resources, this program offers a collaboration that helps residents and small businesses learn about and access affordable solar energy solutions.

Switch Together is an educational and group-buying program designed to help residents become informed solar consumers while offering an accessible installation opportunity for those ready to take the next step. Through free educational resources, webinars, and in-person events, participants can explore whether solar is the right fit for their home or business.

The program's group-buying model leverages collective purchasing power to secure competitive pricing from qualified installers while also ensuring quality assurance, warranty, and guidance through the entire solar buying process from Solar United Neighbors. Participants in the 2026 program are expected to save an average of $7,475 on solar installations - approximately 24% below the market average.

"The most valuable thing about our partnership with Solar United Neighbors is the free resources they offer to help our residents make the best decision for their home or business," says Kayla Caselli, Sustainability & Resilience Officer for the City of Tampa. "Solar can be a powerful tool for energy affordability and independence, and the information provided through Switch Together ensures our residents understand the costs and best practices before they make this investment now or in the future."

The program continues to make a measurable impact in Tampa. In 2025, approximately 500 Tampa households registered for Switch Together, 141 accepted their personalized offers, and 68 signed contracts for solar installation projects.

"With utility rates continuing to rise, many families are looking for ways to lower and stabilize their energy costs," said Mia Brady, Florida Program Associate for Solar United Neighbors. "Switch Together gives neighbors an easier and more affordable way to go solar while helping them make informed decisions about energy investments."

Upcoming educational opportunities include a beginner-friendly in-person solar information session hosted by SUN and the City of Tampa Sustainability & Resilience Team on June 27, 2026, from 11:00 A.M. - 12:30 P.M. at City Center at Hanna Avenue, located at 2555 E Hanna Ave, Tampa, FL 33610.

Residents and businesses can learn more resources, register for Switch Together, and sign up for the information session at Tampa.gov/Solar. The deadline to register and receive a personalized recommendation is September 2, 2026.
