Oct. 27, 2026 - Southwestern Colorado - Bridge inspection finds structure in safe condition

Southwest Colorado - The Colorado Department of Transportation opened the US Highway 160 San Juan River Bridge at 6:20:p.m. on Oct. 27, 2026. US 160 is open in both directions between Cortez and Tec Nos Pos, Arizona.

CDOT urges motorists traveling through southwest Colorado and neighboring states to plan ahead and check all routes that may still be impacted by recent floods, visit: COtrip.org, NMroads.com, AZ511.gov and udottraffic.utah.gov.

After river levels receded to safely perform bridge inspections, engineers determined the bridge was stable and there are no major structural concerns from recent flood events. CDOT will continue to monitor and assess the bridge as river levels continue to recede, which will consist of in-depth inspections to determine the need for potential future repair work to ensure structure longevity.

The preemptive safety closure was initially put in place shortly after 7 p.m. on Saturday evening to protect motorists from the rising river flows impacting the bridge structure.

US 160 between Cortez and the Four Corners area over the San Juan River Bridge was opened on Tuesday evening after bridge inspections determined the structure was safe for motorists.
