Birmingham, AL - Today, U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell (AL-07) provided lunch for the hardworking federal employees at the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport. Nearly 200 federal workers-including air traffic controllers, TSA agents, and customs and border protection personnel-remain on the job without pay due to the Republican shutdown.
Photos and videos of the visit are available here.
"I was grateful for the opportunity to show my appreciation for the dedicated TSA agents, air traffic controllers, and customs personnel here at the Birmingham Airport who are not getting paid despite working tirelessly to keep us safe," said Rep. Sewell. "This shutdown is causing real pain for communities here in Alabama and all across the nation. It's time for my Republican colleagues to join us at the negotiating table to reopen government and protect the health care of all Americans."
The Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport is in the process of setting up a grocery store for federal workers impacted by the government shutdown.
