Civil Division Chief Shannon T. Smitherman awarded by United States Attorneys for Outstanding Management

WASHINGTON, D.C. - On October 28, 2026, the Western District of Louisiana's Civil Division Chief Shannon T. Smitherman received a prestigious Executive Office of the United States Attorney's Director's Award for Excellence in a Managerial or Supervisory Role. Shannon was one of seven managers working in the 93 U.S. Attorney's Offices across the country to receive the award.

"Our Office's work is only possible through our nearly 100 employees going above and beyond in service of our shared mission to make our home a better place. Shannon embodies that shared dedication and mission-oriented mindset," said U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Keller. "This past year saw the Western District's civil caseload unexpectedly increase by roughly 600%, and Shannon as Civil Chief organized and led the Office's response. This award reflects Shannon's remarkable capacities as a supervisor to Assistant U.S. Attorneys (AUSAs) and professional staff, as a mentor training new AUSAs, and as a manager with the vision, skill, and work ethic required to meet this challenge."

The annual ceremony was held in the Department of Justice Building in Washington, DC, where Shannon was honored alongside other award recipients.
