MADISON, S.D. - A photograph by Dakota State University faculty member Wendy M. Romero, associate professor of art and design, has been selected for "Quiet Landscape: Beauty, Stillness, and Connection," an international photography exhibition at PhotoPlace Gallery in Middlebury, Vermont.
Romero's photograph, "Winter Day," was taken in the Grand Teton area of Wyoming this past spring. The exhibition runs Nov. 6-28, and the online gallery will remain part of PhotoPlace Gallery's permanent collection.

"I took this photo at the Grand Teton this past spring. At the last minute, I convinced my husband to join me in making a road trip to work on my photography. We stayed at a campground, and because it was the quiet season, it felt like we had the place to ourselves," Romero said.
Juror Kat Kiernan selected photographs for the exhibition, which explores landscapes and the quiet moments that invite reflection. Selected works will also appear in an exhibition catalog and be promoted through PhotoPlace Gallery's publications and social media.
"'Quiet Landscape' is a journey through many topographies. Uniting these photographs is an attentiveness to our surroundings (light, atmosphere, and stillness) and also to the act of making photographic art: composition, timing, and post-production," Kiernan said. "Narrowing thousands of submitted photographs to just 35 on the gallery walls and another 40 on the screen was a daunting task, and a privilege. In the spirit of the exhibition, I made my selections in the quiet; selecting artists who demonstrated an ability to transform something seen into something felt."
