Rep. Bera Applauds House Passage of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Representative Ami Bera, M.D. (CA-06) issued a statement following House passage of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, comprehensive legislation aimed at increasing housing supply, lowering housing costs, and expanding access to homeownership for working families across the country.

The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act includes measures to streamline permitting and environmental reviews, support manufactured and modular housing development, strengthen regional housing planning, expand access to small-dollar mortgages, improve financing tools for community lenders, and modernize federal housing programs.

"At a time when rising costs across the board are squeezing household budgets, too many families are struggling to keep up with rent or mortgage payments, and the American Dream of homeownership feels increasingly out of reach," said Representative Ami Bera, M.D. "Back home in my district, I hear constantly from hardworking young people and families who are delaying major life decisions, stretching their budgets to the limit, or wondering whether they will ever be able to afford a home in the communities where they work and grew up. That is unacceptable."

"This package takes an all-of-the-above approach to addressing our housing crisis by cutting unnecessary red tape, strengthening housing supply, expanding access to financing, and supporting innovative housing solutions," Bera continued. "These are practical steps that can help working families, seniors, veterans, and first-time homebuyers find an affordable place to live, build generational wealth, and achieve the American Dream of homeownership."

Earlier this year, Representative Bera announced his support for 25 housing-related bills focused on increasing housing supply, improving affordability, and helping more families find a safe, stable, and affordable place to live. Many of those bills were incorporated into this legislation.
