City of Yuma Road Report, May 21

City Projects

Road Striping Project

The City of Yuma will conduct citywide road striping to improve roadway safety and visibility. Drivers are advised to use caution, watch for wet paint, avoid driving over freshly painted markings, and follow posted traffic control signs and cones in work areas.

Giss Parkway, Madison Avenue to 2nd Avenue

Beginning May 18, an ADOT contractor will install ADA ramps and a HAWK pedestrian beacon on Giss Parkway between Madison Avenue and 1st Avenue.

Sidewalks on the north and south sides of Giss Parkway will be closed between Madison Avenue and 1st Avenue during the project. Intermittent partial and full lane closures will take place on Giss Parkway between Madison Avenue and 2nd Avenue. Work is expected to be completed by early July.

Motorists are encouraged to follow all traffic control signs and drive safely through the work zone.

24th Street, 4th Avenue to 8th Avenue

Beginning May 18, an ADOT contractor will install ADA ramps and a HAWK pedestrian beacon on 24th Street and 6th Avenue.

Sidewalks on the north and south sides of 24th Street will be closed between 6th Avenue and 7th Avenue during the project. Intermittent partial lane closures will take place on 24th Street between 4th Avenue and 8th Avenue. Work is expected to be completed by early July.

Avenue 8E, 32nd Street

Beginning May 10, a contractor working for the City will remove existing asphalt and replace pavement, concrete curb, striping, signage, and traffic signals on Avenue 8E south of 32nd Street. Drivers are advised to follow posted traffic control signs in the area. Work is expected to be completed by early August.

Mesquite Avenue, Catalina Drive to Arizona Avenue

Beginning May 11, Mesquite Avenue will be closed for waterline and pavement replacement between Catalina Drive and Arizona Avenue. Work will also require closures on Catalina Drive, Coronado Avenue, Palmaire Avenue, Del Mar Avenue, and 30th Street.

In addition, Arizona Avenue at Mesquite Avenue, from 30th Street to East Country Club Drive, will close to through traffic beginning at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, reopen later that day, then close again at 5 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, no later than 2 p.m. Thursday, May 28, for water line work. Drivers are advised to follow posted traffic control signs in the area.

Friendship Park, 34th Place

Beginning May 4, crews will replace a drain at Friendship Park. Work will require closure of the Friendship Park parking lot off 34th Place, along with a partial lane closure at the intersection of 14th Avenue and 34th Street. Drivers are advised to follow posted traffic control signs in the area.

Avenue 4E, 32nd Street

The City is replacing a sewer line at Avenue 4E and 32nd Street. Work requires a road closure in the area. Avenue 4E will be closed in both directions from 32nd Street. Business access remains available during the work. Businesses north of the closure may be accessed via Avenue 5E. Businesses south of the closure may be accessed via Avenue 3 ½ E or Avenue 5E. The project is expected to be completed by early June.

20th Street to 19th Street, 8th Avenue to 4th Avenue

A contractor working for the City will install new underground water, storm, and sewer infrastructure, along with asphalt replacement and construction of concrete sidewalks, ramps, and valley gutters in the project area between 20th Street and 19th Street, from 8th Avenue to 4th Avenue. Drivers are advised to follow posted traffic control signs in the area. Work is expected to be completed by late June.

City Street Maintenance operations for the week of May 25 - May 31 will take place in the following areas.

Asphalt Crack Seal:

24th Street, Araby Road to Avenue 9E.

Vista del Sol Subdivision.

Concrete Sidewalk Repair:

Falls Ranch 2.

Saguaro Unit 1.

Citywide Striping Project:

Avenue A, 40th Street to 1st Street.

1st Avenue, Giss Parkway to 24th Street.

4th Avenue, Catalina Drive to 1st Street.

8th Avenue, 32nd Street to 16th Street.

1st Street, 4th Avenue to Gila Street.

Gila Street, 1st Street to Giss Parkway.

1st Avenue, 1st Street to Giss Parkway.

2nd Avenue, 1st Street to 5th Street.

Madison Avenue, north dead end to Giss Parkway.

24th Street, 4th Avenue to Avenue B.

14th Avenue, 8th Street to 24th Street.

20th Street, Avenue B to east dead end.

5th Avenue, 16th Street to 8th Street.

Other utility projects and encroachment permits

Arizona Avenue, 32nd Street (Taylor Engineering)

Beginning June 1, crews with Taylor Engineering will perform sewer manhole rehabilitation work at Arizona Avenue and 32nd Street, as well as at various locations along the Colorado River Interceptor and Yuma Valley Levee corridor. Work will require lane closures and nighttime road closures. Drivers are advised to follow posted traffic control signs in the area. Work is expected to be completed by early June.

Avenue C, 22nd Lane to 24th Street (Private Contractor)

Beginning April 14, crews will work in the area of Avenue C between 22nd Lane and 24th Street. The southbound left lane on Avenue C from 22nd Lane to 24th Street will be closed during the work. Drivers are advised to follow posted traffic control signs in the area. Work is expected to be completed by late June.

20th Avenue, 8th Street to 6th Place (Southwest Gas Corp.)

Beginning April 14, crews with Southwest Gas Corp. will complete gas line replacement work on 20th Avenue between 8th Street and 6th Place. Work will require a road closure on 20th Avenue in that area, as well as closures on 7th Street at 19th Avenue and 21st Avenue. Drivers are advised to follow posted traffic control signs in the area. Work is expected to be completed by late July.

28th Street, Avenue 4E (Private Contractor)

Beginning April 13, a private contractor will install a utility line on 28th Street near Avenue 4E. Work will require road closures in the area. Drivers are advised to follow posted traffic control signs. Work is anticipated to be completed by June 13.

Routine Maintenance, Tree Trimming, and Survey Work (APS)

APS crews will be conducting routine maintenance, tree trimming, and survey work throughout the year in various locations within the City. Motorists are advised to watch for work zones in unexpected areas and follow all posted traffic control.

Fiber optic installations (Allo)

Communications line installations are taking place in areas designated for utility easements in numerous and various locations within the City limits and surrounding vicinity. Motorists are advised to watch for work zones in unexpected areas.
