Sheffield Road to Reopen Ahead of Schedule as Next Phase of Construction Begins

Bartow, Fla. (Oct. 15, 2026) - The currently closed section of Sheffield Road immediately west of the Spirit Lake Road intersection in Winter Haven is expected to reopen at 1 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19, more than one month ahead of schedule. Construction began on July 13.
As Phase 2 concludes, Phase 3 will begin at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 18 with the closure of Old Bartow Eagle Lake Road between the intersection of Spirit Lake Road and Sheffield Road and Spirit Landings Boulevard. The road is expected to reopen by 7 a.m. Monday, Jan. 11, 2027.
During the closure, drivers will be detoured using Crystal Beach Road, Thornhill Road and Spirit Lake Road. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and use alternate routes to avoid delays.
The project is part of the Polk County Roads and Drainage Division's ongoing efforts to improve traffic operations at the intersection of Spirit Lake Road and Sheffield Road.
