In response to Trump's reckless trade policies devastating America's farmers, DNC Deputy Executive Director Libby Schneider released the following statement:
"Trump promised he'd be the most pro-farmer president ever and that he'd never do anything to hurt farmers, but the numbers and real-life stories tell a completely different tale. The bottom line is that Trump is screwing with the livelihoods of the folks who work day in and day out to put food on our table. Trump continues to betray farmers and rural Americans, and it has to stop now."

In a new video, North Dakota native and DNC Deputy Executive Director Libby Schneider discusses how Trump's reckless trade policies, rising agricultural input costs, and mounting farm debt are crushing America's farmers under Trump's watch - and he has no plan to help them.
Farmers are facing a breaking point under Trump. In the first half of 2025, more farms went bankrupt than in any year since 2020. And farm finances are expected to worsen further under Trump's watch, with farm debt projected to jump 5% this year compared to last year - reaching a record high. A majority of agricultural economists think the industry and family farmers are already in a recession.
After promising to never hurt farmers, Trump is leaving America's farmers high and dry as they literally beg for help. As a result of Trump's reckless trade wars, countries that American farmers count on to sell their crops - especially soybeans - are looking elsewhere. China, once the largest buyer of U.S.-grown soybeans, hasn't bought a single soybean from the U.S. fall crop - and as Brazil sets export records with China, there are no indicators that things could turn around for American farmers anytime soon. Soybean farmers are already suffering from higher prices for fertilizer and equipment, and if a trade war continues, the results could be catastrophic. But the response from the Trump administration has been radio silence.
